e-Learning Lesson 1 by Tan Hao Ming (18)
1a) I used cams as the mechanism as cams will keep rotating as the wheels rotate (they are jointed together), and when the cams rotate, it will cause the body of the toy to move
up and down (oscillating movement) continuously, together with the wheels. I also attach the link or joint which joins the cam together with the wheels in the 'hole' of the wheel.

Q1a) Linkage as the duck would be osccilating as the wheels move and it creates a continuos movement.

Q1) A cam would be used such that it is attached to the pole connecting the two front wheels. When the wheels turn, the cam will turn, pushing to duck back, and then causes the duck to 'snap' back front. This cycle continues as the wheels turn.

Q1a) I used a cam as cams are what usually cause a continuous movement, or oscillating movement. I also attached the body to a lever, where the fulcrum is at the end of the small gap, so that the body will not fall off when the toy is moving.

Submission of Presentation Board and Group Journal
Dear pupils of S206,
Please take note that the submission of the Presentation Board and Group Journal is in Wk10, 9th March 2011 Wednesday.
The Presentation Board will consist of the Challenge, 3D drawing(Isometric Projection) and First Angle Orthographic Projection of your selected design.

Singapore Polytechnic Toy Design Competition
Global Citizenship Program: Talent Development Program (TDP) Level 2 for ADMT
Dear Year 2 students,
As you might have known, there would be a Level 2 TDP trip to Vietnam in week 10 of Term 2, that is specially catered to those who are interested in expanding your interests in ADMT. The objectives of the trip are as follows:
- To have a deeper understanding of the requirements of urban planning
- To uncover the relationship between cultural influences and the architectural development of a developing country
- To understand the requirements of developing a learning and recreational space for the youths
As you would have probably noticed, this trip is skewed towards an even larger understanding of how ADMT is applied at a more macro level, that includes urban planning, architecture and other related areas.
As I am gathering information and working on the detailed plans, I am encouraging those who fits the profile below, and who are not involved in other GCP trips, to come and see me (Mr Irfan) personally, anytime after school for further details, before next Tuesday, 1st March, 2011. My main target group are as follows:
Students with strong interest in ADMT
Students who are independent learners
Students who exhibit a positive learning attitude
See you till then.

Wk7: Mechanism
First Period
As part of the requirements of the toy design project, your team would have to consider the inclusion of Simple Mechanisms, or Simple Electronics in your designs. In Today's lesson, the class would cover a basic introduction to simple mechanisms. There are 6 toy design teams and each team would be covering one of these basic areas of mechanisms. Every pupil in the class has a role to play as all your work will be consolidated to be used as reference for the class.

Wk 6: Challenge, Ideas and Development of selected idea
Redefine the Challenge
Do revisit the challenge and redefine it so that the group understands the focus.
Example:
The challenge is to design and create a toy that enables the children (5-8 years old) to use their creativity to construct a flying device that will fly the furthest.
Idea Generation and Selecting the BEST idea
All members in the group must generate at least one idea used to solve the challenge. Selecting the BEST idea is a convergence process thus the group will need to show the method used to selected the BEST idea. Methods can be Paired Comparison Analysis (PCA) tool, evaluation Matrix. The group will need to set the criterions before assessing the different ideas.
Selected Idea
Create the isometric projection and 1st angle orthographic projection of the selected idea. Do take into considerations about the ergonomics and anthropometry data of the children when finalizing the size (dimensions) of the selected idea.
Development of idea
The group will need to develop the idea to understand the construction of the prototype.
The group will need to assess the selected idea and understand the following.
1. How many parts are there in the idea?
2. What are the sizes (dimensions) of the individual part?
3. Materials?
4. What type of joints to use to join the part together?
5. How to create the individual part?
6. How to incorporate mechanism/ electronic components in the prototype?
